Meet our animals
Every animal here is a rescue, and every one of them stays for life. Come and say hello, or sponsor a resident to help cover their care.
Our rescued cattle are gentle giants who love a slow scratch and a quiet voice. They are often the stars of bottle-feeding sessions.
Ten rescued ewes who came to us for a peaceful retirement. They are curious, food-motivated and happiest in a group.
Our rams live separately from the flock. Visitors admire them from outside the fence only.
Our youngest sheep, born at the sanctuary in December. Bottle-feeding sessions with the lambs are booked in advance.
Bill, Mary and Mick are mischievous, clever and very good at escaping. Please keep bags and coats out of reach.
Sox, Spit, Chester and Priest are calm observers who prefer being admired to being touched. All four are elderly, and came to us together when their owner's MS progressed to the point where she could no longer care for them.
Chester is the youngest of our four alpacas and a great character — he makes a beautiful bride when the dressing-up box comes out. He has a torn ear from a fight before he came to us, and arrived with the rest of the herd when their owner's MS meant she could no longer look after them.
Priest is our oldest and gentlest alpaca — a calm, patient soul who is happy to stand and watch the world go by. He was rehomed to us alongside the rest of the herd when their owner's MS progressed and she could no longer care for them.
Moonlight and her mum Sunbeam are our two rescued Shetland ponies. They came to the sanctuary after spending years as field ornaments once their little person lost interest in them — here they get company, care and a proper retirement.
Moonlight is Sunbeam's daughter. She arrived with her mum after years as a field ornament, and she is quite friendly once she trusts you — just a little more reserved than Sunbeam.
Sunbeam is a perfect pony and Moonlight's mum. A prize-winning show jumper in her day, she spent years as a field ornament before coming to us — now she is the friendliest face at the gate.
Our birds live across the Executive Suite, Hugh Henner’s Play House, Featherington House, the duck pond, the chick brooder and the pheasant aviary.
Badger is our resident cat and unofficial site supervisor.
We are a rescue sanctuary and do not breed. Animals are never sold for slaughter. For your safety and theirs, please read our safety information before visiting.
